Continental Hair has been proud to have helped so many women through their hair loss. Many of the techniques and products we use are exclusive to us and offer a level of natural look and lifestyle that is not available elsewhere. If you are a woman that wears hair now then you are someone that would appreciate some of the things that make Continental Hair unique.

1. Hair Quality

Have you had a problem with the quality of the hair in your systems? We always have clients who are wearing hair coming to Continental to see what we can do differently. The biggest complaint they have is the quality of the hair. This is something that has been getting worse every year, especially for clients on permanent attachment systems. This is an even worse problem for women wearers because they require longer styles and more complex colours. The processed hair from Asia has never been the best solution, but in recent years the attention to quality at the production level has fallen off dramatically. A beautiful hair system must start with beautiful hair, and that is what Continental Hair offers. In cases of a custom order postiche, topper, or wig, we can even show you the hair we will use before we send it away to the factory.
For example, hair quality in a Contressa cannot get any better. It is pure virgin hair and is checked for every variable to make sure that it blends exactly with your own. Not just colour, not just curl, not just length, but coarseness as well. This is something that we take much pride in and love showing off. Virgin hair is also available in our other designs as well. One must remember that it can be limited in the colours and lengths available.

2. Workmanship

The vast majority of hair systems are made, at least in part, by hand. If the workmanship is not excellent then it will show early on in the way the system behaves. Things can go wrong. And sometimes mistakes are made. But these should be rare and be corrected by the salon. Continental Hair has a six-month factory defect warranty on our products. If it was not made right, we will make it right. I will put my manufacturers’ workmanship up against anyone else in the country.

3. Service

Are you not being treated the way you like at your present studio?

Hair is a very important aspect of our lives. This is why we are here. And many people losing their hair are also dealing with difficult circumstances at the moment. And there is another aspect to consider; hair (at least good hair) is very expensive. Continental Hair has the most experience in helping women get the hair they want and keeping it the way they like it. We have been doing this for 50 years. And I will not say that every single person over the last five decades has been happy with us, I will say that the letters and feedback that I get from our (repeat) clients tell us that we do things right.

Another aspect of service is talent. Having the most beautiful hair in the world is nothing if it cannot be styled the way you like it. You have your choice at Continental with some of the most talented and experienced stylists and technicians in Canada. These professionals are there to make sure you get the look you want.

How long your wig lasts depends on how it is made and how you take care of it.

Synthetic Hair

With synthetics, it is very important to avoid high heat. Not only from everyday activities like cooking but especially from high-heat curling irons and blow dryers. The synthetic hair will not catch fire. But it will frizz and have a very unnatural appearance. A synthetic wig, even perfectly cared for, will begin to frizz from the heat generated from your body, and will degenerate more quickly if you spend a lot of time in the sun. For this reason, one can expect a synthetic hair wig to last no longer than 8 to 12 months of everyday wear.
If a wig is worn every day, it should be washed about every two weeks. Because it is not growing hair, it does not get coated with lubricating oils and sweat from the scalp. So it does not require washing as often. To wash your synthetic hair wig, use a mild shampoo in cold water. Rinse in cold water as well. This will ensure the style is maintained. Shake away excess water and leave to dry overnight.

Asian Human Hair

With this type of hair, you can use your hot curling irons and blow dryers. It can be styled, even permed, like your natural hair. However, it will require colouring two or three times a year. This is a result of the processing, which strips the cuticle from the hair shaft. The cuticle is what keeps the colour in the hair.
Wash in cold water, agitating gently, this is required for only 20 to 30 seconds. Do the same with a rinse then brush and style. Hint: for any human hair wig, it is best to have a simple style. That way after every washing you do not have to take great pains to re-style it.

European Hair

It is best if the stylist at the wig salon demonstrates the washing procedure for European hair. Do not expect your hairstylist to know how this is done. Your stylist may be a wizard with your hair, but when styling and especially maintaining this quality of wig only a very few (usually ones that were in business during the 60′s) know how it’s done. Pride can prevent them from admitting that this is not in their area of expertise. Disregard any advice regarding dry cleaning fluids or other exotic procedures as mythical and incorrect.

Hair in Brush

I was curious about something I had heard recently about using natural methods to fight hair loss and wondered if this was some hocus pocus magic, or the real deal. I will write what I found out and let you decide which it is…the real deal or the workings of snake-oil salesmen.

In searching I found a long list of tonics, creams, supplements and treatments that sounded too good to be true and certainly didn’t fit with what I have learned so far about hair loss treatments.

In the past we have discussed the work of hair loss icons like Dr. David Kingsley, Dr. Alan Bauman and even Sy Sperling… all pioneers in the field of hair loss. We have also written dozens of posts on laser treatments, scalp treatments and every other kind of hair loss treatment. We’ve looked at the results of some of the clinical trials being conducted on stem cells (PRP) and just about exhausted everything we could find on the Internet about preventing the loss of hair in both men and women.

Now we are being told about something else…something that does not involve the usual causes for hair loss . The following are some suggestions by the famous Andrew Weil, M.D. who is known far and wide for his books on natural therapies for all manner of health related problems.

Dr. Weil recommends the use of flax seed and Omega-3 fatty acids; nothing new there. He also talks about dietary changes and supplements; still nothing new. Then things start to get a little bit strange.

He advocates for hypnosis, guided imagery, Anthrain Ointment (a synthetic substance made to treat psoriasis and saw palmetto (for treatment of benign prostate problems. We all know what hypnosis is and I looked up guided imagery and it said, “Guided Imagery is a technique used by many natural or alternative medicine practitioners as well as some physicians and psychologists for aiding clients and patients to use mental imagery to help with anything from healing their bodies with Cancer guided imagery to solving problems or reducing stress.

Hair Loss Treatments

Guided Imagery is not limited to physical problems or health issues and is commonly used for emotional healing or psychological issues. Guided Imagery is sometimes considered a form of hypnotherapy. Simple imagery suggestions are given to a client by a trained practitioner typically in a one-on-one fashion, however, it is sometimes done in group sessions. The offering of a series of image suggestions depends upon the needs of the individual. The image suggestions given to a client often involve effective breathing and relaxing techniques at the start of the session, and then progresses further through the main course of the patient’s problem by providing a direction toward the solution”.

Do any of these methods really work? In closing, in Dr. Weil’s article he stated the following; “ I began to go bald at age 16 so enjoy the beauty of baldness”. Why does this sound counter-productive to me?

If in fact bald was so beautiful then why is hair restoration a multi-billion dollar a year business and why are all of these so-called “beautiful people” seeking treatment?

We leave the fail decision up to you.  If you are experiencing thinning hair or hair loss and are not okay with it, then call us, fill out the form on this page and arrange for your evaluation.  Our approach is a very simple one.  The first thing we will do is learn more about you, your lifestyle and the determine what is causing your hair to thin or fall out, then we will recommend a solution that best fits your need and budget.  It’s that simple, no gimmicks, no hocus locus, just real solutions.

Thyroid Awareness

Is Your Thyroid Normal or Is It Time to Get Checked?

There are several diseases that can contribute to hair loss, including thyroid disease. One of the major issues with thyroid disease is that people often don’t realize they have it until long after it’s been affecting their health. While the symptoms vary from person to person, many people with thyroid disease experience weight gain, depression, aches and pain, and yes, hair loss. This disease can cause hair to thin and grow coarse at an unnatural rate, but many women simply mistake this process as a natural signs of aging. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and you don’t know the cause, it is important to schedule an appointment with your doctor.

After checking your thyroid levels, a doctor will be able to determine whether or not you have thyroid disease. While your doctor will help you treat the condition itself, we can help with the associated hair loss. We offer custom medical wigs, all of which are made using 100% real human hairs. No matter how much hair you have lost due to your thyroid condition, we can help you achieve a full head of hair in no time. The team at Continental Hair invites you to give us a call to set up a consultation today.

Male pattern baldness may be more noticeable to the average person walking by you on the street, but there are just as many women who suffer from hair loss. While often not as drastic as the hair loss experienced by men, hair thinning can be just as devastating for women.

Hair thinning does not just physically alter someone’s appearance. It can also take a mental and emotional toll due to the stress and anxiety caused by trying to cover up the loss of hair.

At Continental Hair, we’re here to tell you that you no longer have to worry about hair thinning. Regardless of how much hair you’ve lost, we offer simple and affordable solutions that mean you won’t have to worry about concealing your hair loss any longer.

The Contressa is Continental Hair’s own semi-permanent hair system. Hand-knotted with real human hair, the Contressa allows you to live your life without worrying about your hair!

The Contressa is custom-made just for you, so it can offer either full coverage or partial coverage, depending on the severity of your hair loss.

The Contressa may be best for you if:

A Postiche (sometimes called a “topper”) is a partial wig meant to blend in with your own hair. Made with real human hair, our experts will blend your postiche with your existing hair so it’s completely seamless!

A postiche is similar to an integration system, except it’s primarily considered a daily-wear clip on, whereas the integration system stays on for up to 3 weeks.

A Postiche may be best for you if:

An integration system is a partial hair replacement solution that is semi-permanently attached for up to 3 weeks. Made with real human hair, it’s virtually invisible because we can blend it with your existing hair!

An integration system is similar to a postiche, except the integration system is considered a semi-permanent hair system, while a postiche is a daily wear clip-on.

An Integration System may be best for you if:

A wig can be a good solution if your thinning hair is quite severe. Our wigs can be made either with real human hair or synthetic hair and can be custom-made to suit your needs.

However, in most cases, we would recommend going with a “partial” solution such as a Postiche, Integration System, or a partial Contressa since we can blend those with your existing hair.

A full wig may be for you if:

Dermatologists can help determine the type of hair loss more closely. The vast majority of women that do something about this condition get a hair system such as a postiche, which works with your existing hair, rather than a full wig.

The idea that thinning hair and hair loss are just problems for men is false. Over forty percent of those who experience temporary or long-term hair loss are in fact, women. Some women have hair that is thinning all over, while others can see the center part of their hair gradually widen. Even others develop distinct baldness at the crown of the head. Unlike men, however, women rarely develop a receding front hairline.

There is no cure that can stop and reverse hair thinning in women, but there are several solutions when it comes to replacing hair. Whether you are in need of a topper to create a fuller look on the top of your head or an entire wig for more advanced hair loss, you can count on us to offer custom products and systems to meet your exact needs.

One of our hair replacement professionals will work with you to find a solution that works best with your specific hair-thinning case. For more information about how we can help with hair thinning, please contact us today!
